Criteria for Relief
The distribution of funds from the Brown & Brown Disaster Relief Foundation, Inc. for the purpose of disaster relief will be supervised and directed by the Foundation’s Beneficiary Selection Committee (the “Committee”). The following procedures and criteria will be used by the Committee for selecting individual recipients.
Preference will be given to applicants who are Brown & Brown, Inc. teammates that were employed in a full or part-time capacity at the time of the event. However, the Committee may also make grants to individuals not employed by Brown & Brown, Inc. for disaster relief purposes.
Applicants will be selected on the basis of financial need and the severity and impact of the disaster on the named applicant and their family. In determining whether the applicant is financially needy, the Committee does not have to find that the applicant is totally destitute. Rather, an applicant will be considered financially needy if they lack the resources to obtain basic necessities at the time the application is submitted. The Committee will review each application submitted and make an objective evaluation of the individual’s stated needs and their verified loss. In addition, the Committee may conduct interviews to further determine the scope of an individual’s damages. Further still, the Committee may request additional documentation to verify the extent of need of an individual.
The Committee will consider both applications for short-term assistance and applications for long-term assistance. Short-term assistance includes the provision of funds, services or goods to ensure that the applicant and their family have the basic necessities, such as food, clothing, and shelter, during the weeks immediately following the event. Long-term assistance may include financial assistance for temporary housing or other expenses that are the result of a disaster, or emergency hardship such as disability or loss of one’s spouse. Examples may include accessibility modifications to a dwelling, assistance with certain expenses relating to a course of treatment, expenses associated with the purchase or installation of assistive devices, etc.
Selections will be made without regard to race, color, national origin, age or sex of the applicant.
